Resumo

O presente trabalho teve como objetivo estudar o crescimento em altura em função da idade da Araucaria angustifolia, no Planalto Médio, Encosta Superior do Nordeste e Serra do Sudeste, Estado do Rio Grande do Sul. Para isso utilizou-se a equação de Backman, que se mostrou eficiente juntamente com a utilização de variáveis dummy, permitindo identificar diferenças no crescimento de acordo com as regiões estudadas. Os resultados obtidos demonstram que, em cada região, a espécie apresenta uma forma e velocidade de crescimento em altura diferenciada, o que comprovou a necessidade de equações em separado para cada local, para minimizar os erros de prognose de produção. Na Serra do Sudeste, o incremento médio anual máximo em altura foi de 0,50 m/ano, aos 22anos; no Planalto Médio de 0,60 m/ano, aos 20 anos; e, na Encosta Superior do Nordeste de 0,96 m/ano, aos treze anos de idade, indicando um ótimo potencial de crescimento.

Abstract

This paper considers the height growth according to different ages and regards Araucaria angustifolia individuals from the Middle Plateau, Northeast upper hillside and Southeast Range, in Rio Grande do Sul state. Backman’s equation was used and an efficient performance was verified, with the application of “dummy” variables, allowing for the identification of tree growth differences at each studied region. The results showed different forms and celerities of height growth at each studied region, which has confirmed the need of specific equations for each place, in order to minimize the errors in prognosis production. The maximum annual average growth increment in height for 22 year-old trees in the Southeast Range, for 20 year-old trees at the Middle Plateau and 13 year-old trees in the Northeast upper hillside were respectively 0,50, 0,60 and 0,96 m/year, indicating a great potential of growth.
