Jambolan propagation by layering

Abstract


The objective of this study was to evaluate the air layering technique injambolan (S. cumini) by use of different concentrations of indole-butyric acid (IBA). The study was carried out with three plants adultsjambolan. The experimental design was a randomized block, evaluating the concentration of IBA, with 3 repetitions of 5 air layering each. It was used branches with diameter greater than 6 mm. During the air layering process withdrew a complete ring of bark about 1.5 cm wide, reaching the branch exchange region. After annealing was applied in the exchange region, indole-butyric acid (IBA) in the concentrations of 0, 2000 and 4000 mg L-1. Under each concentration, were applied 4 drops of dilute AIB at each end of the ring removed. After application of IBA, the exposed area was wrapped with the commercial substrate pre-moistened, until obtaining spherical format of 5 to 7 cm diameter. The substrate was coated with a transparent plastic bag. The moisture content of each substrate was controlled weekly. After 180 days it was evaluated the percentage of rooting and transplanting after rooting, length and number of root. It was recommended the use of air layering technique for jambolan (S. cumini) without IBA if it realized in may.
