Resumo

Este trabalho tem como objetivo revisar o papel dos processos de certificação para a consolidação das técnicas de manejo florestal sob o tripé da viabilidade econômica, preservação ambiental e justiça social. Inicialmente é apresentado o tema desmatamento, justificando a importância da atividade produtiva das florestas plantadas. São descritas algumas características econômicas e ambientais do setor, subsidiando o próximo tópico, em que se evidencia a dimensão social do desenvolvimento florestal. São citadas as características dos dois selos de Certificação Florestal que existem no País: o Forest Stewarship Council (FSC) e o Programa Brasileiro de Certificação Florestal (Cerflor), procurando estabelecer comparações entre suas normas, padrões e princípios. Finalmente, são citadas a Certificação da Cadeia de Custódia, a Certificação em Grupo e a Certificação dos Produtos florestais não madeiráveis. Conclui-se que os processos de certificação contribuem para a consolidação no setor de práticas para o desenvolvimento sustentável.

Abstract

The objective of this paper has been to revise the role of the certification processes for the consolidation of three forest management techniques, namely economical viability, environmental preservation and social justice. Firstly, the theme of deforestation is presented, advocating the importance of the productive activities of the planted forests. A few economic and environmental characteristics of the sector are described as a background for the next topic, which emphasizes the social dimension of forest development. The characteristics of the two kinds of Forest Certification which exist in the Country are mentioned: Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and the Brazilian Program of Forest Certification (Cerflor). The goal is to establish comparisons among their norms, patterns and beginnings. Finally, the Chain of Custody Certification, the Certification in Group and the Certification of the Non Wood Forest Products are mentioned. The certification processes contribute in the consolidation in the sector of practices for sustainable development.
