Abstract

this article integrates the research of the Study of Meaning Group – GESTO (CNPq/UFNT), which articulates discursive semiotics and literary studies in the reinterpretation of works about the Brazilian civil-military dictatorship. The research analyzes Henfil's chronicles and cartoons as testimonial literature and records of memory. The study broadens the notion of literature by considering productions that function as an archive and denunciation of state violence. It seeks to highlight manifestations of democratic resistance in the Latin American context marked by authoritarian interventions. The work also aims to recover the importance of Henfil, often forgotten by new generations. His chronicles and cartoons narrate daily life under the repression of the 1970s and 1980s. The reinterpretation of these productions allows us to understand the continuities between past and present. Thus, Henfil's work contributes to a critical revisiting of the dictatorship and reflection on the contemporary risks of a return to authoritarianism.
